This verse shows how the religious leaders knowingly covered up the resurrection. Faced with undeniable evidence, they chose deception over repentance, paying the guards to spread a false story to protect their power and reputation. The verse reveals that hiding the truth is often a deliberate act, substituting a convenient lie for an uncomfortable reality, even though God’s truth ultimately cannot be concealed.
